French company TotalEnergies made its second hydrocarbon discovery in block C-M-541, located in the pre-salt of the Santos Basin. The oil company informed the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) that it found signs of natural gas in well 1-TOT-3-RJS, in a water depth of 3,022 meters.
To remember, TotalEnergies had already found oil and gas in block C-M-541 in 2022, during drilling in well 1-TOT-2-RJS (also called Marolo-1), in a water depth of 3 thousand meters. The drilling campaign in the area is being carried out with the Valaris Renaissance drillship.
TotalEnergies is authorized to drill up to two exploratory wells (Marolo and Ubaia) and three more contingency wells in C-M-541. The block was purchased during the 16th Bidding Round, held by the ANP in 2019. This was the asset with the highest signature bonus in that auction, worth R$4.029 billion.
TotalEnergies is the operator of the area with a 40% stake, in partnership with the companies Qatar Petroleum (40%) and Petronas (20%). Currently, this is the French company’s only exploratory asset in Brazil.
