Brazil Government defines names for the first Secretaries of the Ministry of Mines and Energy

(epbr) The government published the first names of secretaries for the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), under the command of Alexandre Silveira.

— Pietro Mendes will be the Secretary for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels. A career server at the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), Mendes served in the portfolio in the area of fuels and biofuels.

— Thiago Barral will be the Secretary of Energy Planning and Transition. He was president of the Energy Research Company (EPE) since 2019.

— Gentil Nogueira continues as Electric Energy Secretary, a position he held until the end of last year. He was Superintendent of Inspection of Generation Services at the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel).

“The team’s technical capacity is essential to face the portfolio’s great complexity and challenges. The team will work so that the country’s resources are exploited in a timely manner for the entire Brazilian population and also for future generations”, said the minister, in a note.

The conclusion of the elections for the presidencies of the Chamber and the Senate was the landmark that Silveira had mentioned to form his secretariat. But, the executive secretary remains without a defined name.

— Silveira had been working with the appointment of Bruno Eustáquio, former deputy executive secretary of the MME in the Bolsonaro government. His performance in the previous management, including the privatization of Eletrobras, generates protests in the government

The former secretary of Oil and Gas, Rafael Bastos, will remain in the Ministry of Mines and Energy, in the Exploration and Production directorate, which he had already occupied before taking over the secretariat.

— Carlos Agenor Cabral will continue as General Coordinator of the Oil and Natural Gas Exploration and Production Policy department. And Lorena Mendes de Souza takes charge of the Biofuels Department.

— Fábio Vinhado, who headed the biofuels area, returns to the ANP. He will be deputy superintendent of Biofuels and Product Quality.
