Australian operator Karoon Energy has advanced in preparations for the start of production in the Patola field, in the Santos Basin. The company expects to start production in the area at the end of the first quarter of this year. The drilling rig Noble Developer completed drilling and completion activities in the field. Installation of wells and Christmas trees at the two Patola development wells was completed earlier this month.
Now, the next step will be to begin work to install the remaining subsea infrastructure, flowlines, umbilicals and other piping needed to connect the wells to FPSO Cidade de Itajaí. The drilling rig is being mobilized to the site of the BAN-1 well, to carry out an intervention to reopen a lower zone of the well that was previously in production. This will be the field’s fourth and final intervention.
“The Patola development is progressing well, with the drilling and completion phase of the project being completed without major safety or environmental incidents. Patola remains on track to start production during the first quarter of 2023,” said Karoon CEO Julian Fowles.
After completing the intervention in the BAN-1 well, Karoon will move the Noble Developer rig to the Neon field. There, the vessel will drill the first control well in the area. Karoon is actively engaging with regulatory authorities to obtain the necessary approvals in a timely manner. “The receipt of final environmental approvals for Neon drilling has been impacted by the recent change in federal administration in Brazil. Consequently, we will carry out the final planned intervention in the Baúna field, in the BAN-1 well, before moving on to Neon”, concluded Fowles.
