TechnipFMC first shipment of rigid pipelines from its spoolbase in Brazil

TechnipFMC will carry out the first shipment of rigid pipelines from its spoolbase in Porto do Açu, in São João da Barra (RJ), installed in the Dome area (Prumo’s joint venture with GranIHC). The operation will start on Friday), marking the supply of the first production line of the Mero 1 contract, signed with the Libra consortium (Petrobras, Shell, Total, CNPC and CNOOC) to serve the FPSO Guanabara , which will go into operation between March and April.

The information about the shipment was confirmed by sources from PetróleoHoje, anticipating that the first operation should involve about 10 km of lines. The pipelines will be loaded onto the launch vessel Deep Blue, which will be responsible for the campaign.

The vessel is in Guanabara Bay and will head to Porto do Açu. The loading operation of the lines of the first Mero well is expected to take about two to three days.

TechnipFMC’s contract with the Libra consortium for Mero 1 includes the supply of 94 km of rigid pipelines.

TechnipFMC’s spoolbase is the largest base in Brazil and one of the largest in the world. The contract to install the rigid pipeline factory at Porto do Açu was signed with Dome at the end of 2018.

In September 2021, Dome and TechnipFMC agreed to extend the contract aimed at the spool base area for another 20 years, expanding the extension of the business until 2038. The TechnipFMC spoolbase was initially set up to meet Petrobras’ contracts for the Mero 1 and Mero 2 SURF, scheduled for 2022 and 2023, respectively.

The base uses an area of more than 100,000 m², being the largest current facility in the complex. In addition to manufacturing rigid lines at the Porto do Açu facilities, TechnipFMC performs all storage, handling, welding, line coating and boat attraction activities.

Mero’s contract lines began to be manufactured by TechnipFMC in the second half of 2020.
