Natural gas production in 2021 set a record, having reached an average production of 134 MMm3/d (millions of cubic meters per day), a growth of 5% compared to the previous year, when the average was 127 MMm3/d. The average oil production was 2.905 MMbbl/d (million barrels per day), a decrease of 1.18% compared to the volume of 2.940 MMbbl/d recorded in 2020.
National production in December 2021 was 3,670 MMboe/d (million barrels of oil equivalent per day), with 2,838 MMbbl/d of oil and 132 MMm3/d of natural gas. Oil production decreased by 0.5% compared to the previous month and increased by 4.1% compared to December 2020. In natural gas, there was a reduction of 3.2% compared to November and an increase of 4.1% compared to the same month of the previous year.
The data are available in the ANP’s Monthly Bulletin of Oil and Natural Gas Production for December, which provides detailed national production data for December 2021 and a special insert with consolidated production data for the year 2021.
Pre-salt
Pre-salt production in December was 2,709 MMboe/d, with 2,132 MMbbl/d of oil and 91.6 MMm3/d of natural gas. In total, there was a reduction of 0.2% compared to the previous month and an increase of 11.5% compared to December 2020. Production originated in 133 wells and corresponded to 73.8% of national production.
Use of natural gas
In December, the use of natural gas was 97.5%. 54.4 MMm³/day were made available to the market. Gas flaring in the month was 3.3 MMm³/d, a reduction of 12.12% compared to the previous month and an increase of 9.2% compared to the same month in 2020.
Origin of production
In this month of December, the offshore fields produced 97% of the oil and 84.4% of the natural gas. The fields operated by Petrobras were responsible for 93% of the oil and natural gas produced in Brazil.
Highlights
In December, the Tupi field, in the Santos Basin pre-salt, was the largest producer of oil and natural gas, registering 864 MMbbl/d of oil and 41 MMm3/d of natural gas.
The Petrobras 70 platform, producing in the Buzios field through four interconnected wells, produced 161.175 Mbbl/d of oil and was the facility with the highest oil production.
The FPSO Cidade de Itaguaí installation, producing in the Tupi field, through 7 wells connected to it, produced 7,562 MMm³/d and was the installation with the highest production of natural gas.
Estreito, in the Potiguar Basin, had the largest number of onshore producing wells: 952.
Tupi, in the Santos Basin, was the offshore field with the highest number of producing wells: 58.
Marginal accumulation fields
These fields produced 418 boe/d, 200.2 bbl/d of oil and 34.6 Mm³/d of natural gas. The Iraí field, operated by Petroborn, was the largest producer, with 197.9 boe/d
Other information
In December 2021, 273 areas granted, four areas of transfer of rights and six areas of sharing, operated by 40 companies, were responsible for national production. Of these, 61 are offshore and 222 onshore, 13 of which relate to contracts for areas containing marginal accumulations. Production took place in 6,247 wells, 484 of which offshore and 5,763 onshore.
The average API grade of oil extracted in Brazil was 28.2, with 2.4% of production considered light oil (>=31°API), 92.5% medium oil (>=22 API and <31 API) and 5.1% heavy oil (<22 API).
The mature onshore basins (long-term fields/tests in the Espírito Santo, Potiguar, Recôncavo, Sergipe and Alagoas basins) produced 90.987 Mboe/d, with 70.733 Mbbl/d of oil and 3.2 MMm³/d of natural gas. Of this total, 58.8 thousand boe/d were produced by Petrobras and 34.1 thousand boe/d were produced by concessions not operated by Petrobras, of which: 17,145 boe/d in Rio Grande do Norte, 15,004 boe/d in Bahia , 1,537 boe/d in Espírito Santo, 272 boe/d in Alagoas and 208 boe/d in Sergipe.
