Petrobras Launches RES20 Program Enabling to Recover 20 Billion boe by 2030

Petrobras created the RES20 program, enabling to recover up to 20 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe) in its operational fields by 2030. The program was created with a focus on the incorporation of new reserves and targets the main oil fields of the company. To date, in nearly seven decades of the company’s operations in the sector, 23 billion boe have been produced. The director of Exploration and Production at Petrobras, Fernando Borges, explains that “the excellent quality assets of the pre-salt and the opportunity for technological development, with the application of high-resolution seismic, represent levers for us to achieve this objective.”

With the RES20 Program, the company moves towards even better defined and detailed deposit models, focused on asset master plans. The use of artificial intelligence and the application of deep technical knowledge that also help to develop the best reservoir models for the industry, based on quality information, according to the company: “We are seeking to efficiently increase the recovery factor of these fields of cost, maximizing the value of our assets”, added Borges.

Innovation is key to achieving the objectives of the RES20 Program. Among the digital transformation projects that support this idea of performance, the use of data science to facilitate the search for project development opportunities, as well as the artificial intelligence used in process acceleration, stand out. Cloud processing is also used to improve digital reservoir models. The use of augmented reality will enable a better visualization of the drainage networks of these reservoirs. “In addition, innovative technologies are present in pre-salt and post-salt production management, in oil pumping methods with greater power and in the application of advanced recovery methods,” says the company’s statement.
