The Brazilian Environmental Institute (Ibama) granted the operating license to TotalEnergies to drill new wells in block C-M-541, in the Campos Basin.
Valid for 5 years, the license authorizes the drilling of two exploratory wells (Marolo and Ubaia) and another three contingency wells by means of the Valaris DS-15 drillship. The license issued by Ibama also mentions the possibility of carrying out a short-term formation test in each of the wells drilled in the block. TotalEnergies must present the exploratory campaign schedule to the environmental agency by January 1st.
TotalEnergies acquired block CM-541 in the 16th Bidding Round, held by the National Petroleum Agency of Brazil (ANP) in 2019. The French company is the operator in the area with a 40% stake, in partnership with Qatar Petroleum companies ( 40%) and Petronas (20%). Currently, this is the company’s only exploratory asset in Brazil.
