Porto Central signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Votu Winds, a company that plans to install a complex of offshore wind farms in the southern coastal region of the State of Espírito Santo. The port terminal is a project being built in the south of Espírito Santo, on the border with the State of Rio de Janeiro, with economic impacts for the North of Rio de Janeiro, especially in São Francisco de Itabapoana. Porto Central also signed a contract with Petrobras to carry out transshipment operations for oil and oil products at the terminal’s liquid bulk terminal located in Presidente Kennedy-ES.
The location of the Votu Winds project is considered strategic as it brings together a region that, in addition to the outstanding intensity and quality of winds, has the port infrastructure of Porto Central and proximity to the country’s economic and industrial centers.
Part of the energy generation will be used to produce green hydrogen and ammonia, fuels that play a key role in the transition to a carbon neutral world.
The partnership with Votu Winds in the development of feasibility studies for the renewable energy project is in line with Porto Central’s objectives of developing a Green and Clean Energy Hub in the region for a more sustainable future.
Also this year, Petrobras and Porto Central signed a contract to carry out transshipment operations for oil and oil products at the liquid bulk terminal at Porto Central.
“Having the biggest player in the oil and gas industry in Brazil as one of the clients of Porto Central, together with other international oil companies, reinforces the importance of the project for the market,” said the CEO of Porto Central, José Salomão Fadlalah.
The liquid bulk terminal at Porto Central will have a depth of 25 meters and four berths capable of receiving ships of the VLCC class with a capacity of 2 million barrels of oil.
Salomão states that Porto Central is currently the only port project in the implementation phase capable of meeting the growing oil production, which demonstrates its relevance in the logistics matrix of the major players in the market.
The First Phase of the port will consolidate the beginning of the development of the Central Port Energy Hub. In addition to meeting the demand for moving crude oil and importing and distributing oil products, it will also serve the demand for natural gas, as well as clean energy generation, through solar and wind projects, which will also enable large-scale production of hydrogen and green ammonia to serve the international and domestic markets.
According to Salomão, Porto Central will start operating in the second half of 2023 with an eye on the oil market in the Campos Basin.
“This is a very important year because 2023 matches the entry of production from a series of oil production fields and one of our anchor cargoes is oil, it is the movement of oil between ships. So, we need to be very attentive to the arrival schedule of these platforms. Our work is being focused on this purpose, to be ready in the second half of 2023”.
