PETROBRAS STARTS DRILLING IN THE CAMPOS BASIN AT A WATER DEPTH OF 2,800 METERS

Petrobras’ exploratory campaign in the Campos Basin has new developments. This time, the state-owned company started drilling another well (1-BRSA-1378-RJS) in the region, inside block C-M-709, in a water depth of 2,840 meters. The information was made available by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP).

Block C-M-709 is operated by Petrobras (40%), in partnership with ExxonMobil (40%) and Equinor (20%). The region was auctioned off during the 15th Bidding Round, held in 2018. This block, in fact, was one of the biggest signing bonuses offered during the event. The consortium disbursed R$ 1.5 billion to acquire the rights to the area.

Recently Petrobrás has already achieved results in its current drilling campaign in the Campos Basin. The oil company reported in January that it found the presence of oil in block C-M-411, in a water depth of 2,950 meters. The discovery took place 200 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, at the pioneer well that was informally named Urissanê (a word from the Tupi-Guanari that means firefly).
