Schlumberger, IBM and Red Hat have announced that they will collaborate to accelerate the digital transformation in the oil and gas industry. Through the partnership, the companies will provide global access to the cloud exploration and production (E&P) environment and cognitive applications from Schlumberger, which uses IBM hybrid cloud technology, developed on the Red Hat OpenShift container platform.
Under the agreement, Schlumberger has committed to the exclusive use of Red Hat OpenShift, which will allow the deployment of applications in the DELFI environment on any infrastructure, from traditional data centers to multiple clouds, including private and public. “By expanding market access to the DELFI environment, we are taking a big step towards establishing the open and flexible digital environment that our industry needs,” commented Schlumberger CEO Olivier Le Peuch.
The executive added that the partnership will allow “continuous access to a hybrid cloud platform in all countries of the world for implementation in any basin, for any operator”. Schlumberger chose the DELFI platform as the cognitive environment for exploration and production, through which professionals access open APIs to work together, regardless of role, workflow or physical location.
In the future, the companies want to create a differentiated data and operations management solution for the OSDU platform. Thus, they will allow oil and gas operators to create, implement and transition digital infrastructure solutions with hybrid cloud data infrastructures.
