In 2019, the Brazilian production of oil and natural gas was 3.559 million barrels equivalent per day (MMboe / d), totaling 1.299 billion barrels of oil equivalent, an increase of 8.1% in relation to 2018. The State of Rio de Janeiro, where the Lula and Búzios fields are located, has been increasing its participation in national production. In 2019, it was the largest producer of oil and natural gas, representing 71% of the total volume produced in the country, 5.3% higher than in 2018, registering a production of 2.528 MMboe / d. Next comes the State of São Paulo, with an 11.5% share of total production: 409.77 thousand boe / d. Espírito Santo was the third largest producing state, with a production of 333.68 thousand boe / d, representing 9.4% of oil and natural gas production in the country.
Total pre-salt production in 2019 was 2,183 MMboe / d, corresponding to 61.3% of national production. The Lula field, in the Santos Basin, was the largest producing field and registered a daily average of 1,196 MMboe / d, having been responsible for 33% of all national production in the year.
The offshore fields produced 2.683 million barrels of oil per day (MMbbl / d) and 99.8 million cubic meters of natural gas per day (MMm3 / d), which corresponded to 96.3% and 81, respectively, 4% of national production. 104.1 thousand barrels of oil per day (Mbbl / d) and 22.73 MMm3 / d of natural gas were extracted from the onshore fields, corresponding to a 6.53% reduction in oil and an increase of 3, 56% of natural gas, compared to the previous year’s onshore production.
December production
In December 2019, oil production was 3.107 MMbbl / d, exceeding the record recorded in the previous month by 0.5% and December 2018 production by 15.4%. Natural gas production also exceeded the previous month’s record, registering an increase of 0.9% and reaching an average of 138 MMm3 / d. In relation to December 2018, the variation was 21.2%.
Pre-salt production in December originated from 114 wells and corresponded to 66.8% of national production, totaling 2,654 MMboe / d, of which 2,117 MMbbl / d of oil and 85.4 MMm3 / d of natural gas. Compared to the previous month, total production increased by 2.6% and 40.6% compared to December 2018.
Use of natural gas
In December, the use of natural gas was 97.3%. 65.6 MMm³ / day were made available to the market. The gas flaring in the month was 3,679 MMm³ / d, an increase of 7.2% compared to the previous month and 20.8% if compared to the same month in 2018.
Origin of production
Offshore fields produced 96.7% of oil and 81.4% of natural gas. The fields operated by Petrobras produced 93.7% of oil and natural gas. Regarding the fields operated by Petrobras and with the company’s exclusive participation, they produced 41.3% of the total.
Highlights
Again, the Lula field, in the Santos Basin, was the largest producer of oil and natural gas, registering 1.074 MMbbl / d of oil and 45 MMm3 / d of natural gas.
The FPSO Cidade de Maricá platform, producing in the Lula field through seven interconnected wells, produced 148.9 Mbbl / d and was the facility with the highest oil production.
The Polo Arara installation, producing in the Arara Azul, Araracanga, Carapanaúba, Cupiúba, Rio Urucu and Sudoeste Urucu fields, through 35 interconnected wells, produced 8.253 MMm³ / d and was the installation with the highest production of natural gas.
The largest producing well was 3-BRSA-1305A-RJS, in the Mero field, which produced an average of 61.4 Mboe / d.
Estreito, in the Potiguar Basin, had the largest number of onshore producing wells: 1,094.
Marlim Sul, in the Campos Basin, was the maritime field with the largest number of producing wells: 73.
Marginal accumulation fields
These fields produced 54 bbl / d of oil and 6.8 Mm³ / d of natural gas. The Iraí field, operated by Petrobron, was the largest producer, with 40.1 boe / d.
Other information
In December 2019, 294 areas granted, two areas for consideration and five areas for sharing, operated by 34 companies, were responsible for national production. Of these, 70 are maritime and 231 are onshore, 10 relating to contracts for areas containing marginal accumulations. Production took place in 7,205 wells, of which 633 were maritime and 6,572 onshore.
The average API grade was 27.7, with 3.2% of production considered light oil (> = 31 ° API), 86.9% average oil (> = 22 API and <31 API) and 9.9% oil heavy (<22 API).
The mature onshore basins (fields / long-term tests in the Espírito Santo, Potiguar, Recôncavo, Sergipe and Alagoas basins) produced 106.1 Mboe / d, of which 84 thousand bbl / d of oil and 3.5 MMm³ / d of gas Natural. Of this total, 94 thousand boe / d were produced by Petrobras and 12 thousand boe / d were produced by concessions not operated by Petrobras, of which: 343 boe / d in Alagoas, 4,168 boe / d in Bahia, 21 boe / d in Espírito Santo Santo, 7,305 boe / d in Rio Grande do Norte and 202 boe / d in Sergipe.
