Oil production reaches nearly 4 million barrels a day, but the economy still teeters

December 4, 2019

The launching of seven new pre-salt platforms between 2018 and 2019 boosted GDP, even in the face of poor economic performance in other sectors. Brazil is producing nearly 4 million barrels a day, a record high – and pre-salt accounts for 64% of national production.

The report of the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo points out that “in the last two years, Petrobras has installed platforms in the field of Lula, the largest oil and gas producer in the country, and Buzios, the largest discovery ever made off the Brazilian coast. With the growth of activities, the pre-salt already represents 64% of the national production. ”

The article also underlines that “it was the largest campaign of simultaneous launchings of production systems in the history of Petrobras, a movement that reflects delays in the delivery of some units contracted during previous governments, generating a concentration of platform deliveries between the beginning of 2018 and mid 2019. ”
