$ 3 BILLION FOR GATO DO MATO DEVELOPMENT

Nov 1, 2019

The consortium operated by Shell (50%), in partnership with Ecopetrol (30%) and Total (20%), plans to invest $ 3 billion in the development of the Gato do Mato project within the next four years, said Felipe Bayon, CEO of Colombian oil company, during conference with analysts.

Eight to nine wells (producers, gas and water injectors) are expected to be drilled in the project, which includes blocks BM-S-54 and Sul de Gato do Mato, in the Santos Basin pre-salt. Of the planned wells, three have already been drilled with the Brava Star drillship.

The asset should start production in 2024 or 2025, unlike the previous forecast (third quarter of 2023), as reported to Ibama. The project envisages the installation of an FPSO capable of producing 90,000 bopd and compressing 8.5 million m³ / d of natural gas.

Ecopetrol’s expected production in the project is 20,000 bopd.

The deal for Ecopetrol’s entry into Gato do Mato was closed Oct 22 with Shell, which sold 30% of its stake to the Colombian oil company. The operation is awaiting approval by the ANP.

Blocks BM-S-54 and Sul do Gato do Mato are located 200 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, in water depths of 1,720,000 m to 2,050,000 m.
