Baixada Santista has the potential to become a new center of goods and services for the oil and gas sector, along the lines of Macaé (RJ), says São Paulo State Finance and Planning Secretary Henrique Meirelles.
“There is no doubt that the Santos Basin’s share of pre-salt production is growing. Along with the project of the Petrobras research center in the municipality of Santos and the opening of the market that [Governor João] Dória is promoting in the state, it is possible that we may have a new hub in the region, ”said the leader during an event held by the IBP.
The São Paulo portion of the Santos Basin pre-salt concentrates five fields: Lapa, Nordeste de Sapinhoá, Noroeste de Sapinhoá, Sapinhoá and Sudoeste de Sapinhoá, and Sapinhoá which corresponds to 87% of the total production (305 thousand bopd produced in September this year. , according to most recent data from the ANP).
The Petrobras project mentioned is the Baixada Santista Technological Center, announced by Petrobras in 2013. According to Meirelles, the project implementation has now been studied again. “There is huge industry interest for this research center in Santos. The Santos real estate market was fully prepared for the development at the time, ”he said.
The region also has a vocation to offer offshore logistics support services. As reported in May, Equinor is studying the possibility of leasing a base on the São Paulo coast to meet its E&P activities in the Carcará area, in the Santos Basin pre-salt.
According to Meirelles, more than 50 oil and gas suppliers are located in the state of Sao Paulo. He also pointed out that the state has a large mid and downstream network and universities involved in project partnership with oil companies, such as USP, Unicamp, among others.
