Shell found evidence of hydrocarbons in the southern area of Gato do Mato, in the Santos Basin pre-salt. The discovery came from the 3-SHEL-30-RJS well, whose drilling began a little over a month ago with the Constellation Brava Star rig in a water depth of 2,067 m.
The southern block of Gato do Mato was awarded in the second round of ANP production sharing in 2017, in partnership with Total, which holds a 20% stake in the project. The bonus paid for the asset was R $ 100 million.
The area is adjacent to BM-S-54. The asset production development project foresees the installation of an FPSO capable of producing 90,000 bopd and compressing 8.5 million m³ / d of natural gas from the third quarter of 2023.
Including Shell’s discovery, the number of wells for which evidence of oil and / or natural gas in the country was discovered in 2019 is 13. The list includes discoveries in two other production sharing areas: Peroba, operated by Petrobras, and North of Carcará operated by Equinor.
