Asset manager Vinci Partners plans to value Petrobras’ gas distribution assets, company partner and chief infrastructure officer Jose Guilherme Souza said on Thursday amid government plans that will force the state oil company to scrap business in the sector.
Petrobras currently owns 51% of Gaspetro, a company with a stake in 19 natural gas distribution companies, out of 27 in the country, in which Japan’s Mitsui is a minority partner.
According to Souza, it would make perfect sense for Vinci to seek investors to allocate resources to these regional gas distributors, which could even involve an association of the manager with Mitsui.
“It makes sense to have a partner for this gas business,” he told reporters during a Vinci Partners event in Rio de Janeiro.
The executive said he has already talked to Mitsui about other business opportunities in Brazil, but has not yet detailed the gas distributors so far.
