After overtaking Jubarte, the Búzios field now closes in on Sapinhoá, which is the second largest oil and gas producer in the country.
According to data from the ANP, Búzios produced 281,290 thousand boed in May, compared to 312,980 thousand boed extracted in Sapinhoá.
The difference may seem great, but it can be easily overcome with the ramp-up of platforms operating in the field.
The P-74, P-75, P-76 and P-77 FPSOs, with capacity to produce 150 thousand bopd and compress 6 million m³ / d, extracted in May 134 thousand bopd / 5 million m³ / d of gas ; 50.5 thousand bopd / 1.8 million m³ / d; 23 thousand bopd / 872 thousand m³ / d; and 20 thousand bopd / 817 thousand m³ / d, respectively.
The fifth platform to be installed in the field, the Búzios V FPSO, has the first oil planned for 2022. The construction and operation of the unit was contracted to Modec.
The field of greatest production in the country is that of Lula, in the Santos pre-salt. In May, the asset extracted 1.156 million boed.
Total oil and natural gas production in Brazil in May reached 3.473 million boe, surpassing the previous record recorded in December 2016, when 3,433 million boe / d were produced.
Oil production reached 2,731 million b / d, surpassing the previous mark, registered also in December 2016, when 2,730 million b / d were produced. There was an increase of 4.9% in comparison with the previous month and of 4.7% in comparison with the same month in 2018.
Natural gas production was 118 million m³ / d, surpassing the previous record of 117 million m³ / d registered in October 2018. In relation to the previous month, growth was 4.4% and 5.4% % compared to May 2018.
The pre-salt production also surpassed the previous record both in volume and percentage of participation in the national total. In May, output from 97 wells was 2.106 million boe, of which 1.674 million bopd and 68.7 million m³ / d of natural gas.
The pre-salt production corresponded to 60.7% of the total produced in Brazil and was 6.4% higher than that of the previous month and 14.5% higher compared to the same month of 2018.
Use of natural gas
The natural gas utilization in May was 95.8% of the total produced. 58.3 million m³ / day were made available to the market. Gas flaring totaled 4.9 million m³ / d, down 18.8% from the previous month and an increase of 18.9% over May 2018.
