Petroserv’s semi-submersible Catarina contracted by Shell for 60 days to carry out an intervention campaign in the Campos Basin will arrive in Brazil next week. The unit is expected in Brazilian waters possibly between April 22/23 and work is expected to begin in May. The contract may be extended for up to 21 days.
The intervention campaign will be in Bijupirá-Salema and Parque das Conchas, where the Abalone, Argonauta and Ostra fields are located. The semi-submersible is being brought from Las Palmas, Spain, by a large tugboat. The trip began in late March.
Shell has 15 lease options for the intervention campaign. The Bijupirá-Salema fields have been in operation since 1993 and produce around 10,000 barrels per day of oil through the FPSO Fluminense. Parque das Conchas began production in 2009, with the start-up of FPSO Espírito Santo, which now produces 45 thousand barrels of oil per day.
Arriving in Brazil, the semi-submersible Catarina will go directly to the Campos Basin, where all the procedures for the release and admission of the unit by the Navy, the Federal Revenue and other governing bodies will be made. The rig was hired in mid-February.
Drilling in Gato do Mato
In addition to the Catarina for the Campos Basin, Shell is chartering a drilling unit for Gato do Mato and Gato do Mato Sul, located in the Santos cluster. The acquisition was made earlier this year, along with the Bijupirá-Salema and the Parque das Conchas, but has not yet been finalized.
According to the company, the oil company is still evaluating the commercial proposals. The quotation is for drilling a firm well for 120 days, with the possibility of extending the contract for a total of one year, which would involve three other wells.
The market expectes that the oil company will extend the use of the contracted rig in the neighboring area of Alto de Cabo Frio Oeste, located in the Santos Basin and sold in the third round of sharing in November, in partnership with CNOOC Petroleum and QPI Brazil. Shell delivered the environmental licensing application for both Gato do Mato and Alto de Cabo Frio Oeste.
In the lawsuit filed with IBAMA at the beginning of the year, the oil company is requesting authorization to drill two wells in Gato do Mato Sul and three in Alto de Cabo Frio Oeste.
