Spectrum is preparing to intensify its performance in the 3D seismic market in the country. The decision was, among other factors, motivated by the establishment of a calendar of auctions by the ANP, says the country’s manager of the company, João Correa.
“We close the 2D mosaic on the coast of the country, and now we have the option to do the reprocessing, go to 3D and, maybe, enter the nodes market [4D],” Correa anticipates.
After the campaign in partnership with CGG in Foz do Amazonas Basin in 2014, the company must return to acquire 3D data soon, now in the Potiguar and Santos basins. Licensing processes are in progress.
The work in Rio Grande do Norte will focus on the blocks awarded in the 15th Round to Petrobras, Shell and Wintershall. The survey will complement the 2D campaign made in the region in 2017.
In Santos, the idea is to continue with the geological evaluation of areas that could be offered in the 16th Round, following the recently concluded 2D survey in the basin.
Activities in Santos were conducted by the BGP Challenger, which started a 2D survey on the offshore of the Pernambuco-Paraíba Basin.
Pelotas
Spectrum owns the world’s largest 2D data library, including information purchased from CGG and Fugro. “Today, we have almost everything from Tierra del Fuego to Guyana,” says Ferraz.
The executive believes that the regime of permanent supply of areas could help unlock exploratory activities in regions less known, such as the Pelotas Basin.
In August 2016, France’s Total drilled in the Uruguayan portion of the basin without, however, succeeding. The following month, none of the region’s six blocks offered in the ANP’s 14th Round received proposals.
The country manager says, however, that the best position of the basin is on the Brazilian side. “Our studies point to very interesting structures in the area,” he says.
