Owner of two factories and service units in Brazil, Vallourec is investing in the local production chain to increase the national content of its goods and services for the oil and gas industry.
Recently, the French pipe and fitting manufacturer for exploration and production projects has partnered with Cladtek to produce clad pipes in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
“There is a lot of chain suppliers outside of Brazil. We are concentrating the most in the country, “says Vallourec Institutional Relations Superintendent Hilde Dellaretti Junior.
Currently, 70% of the local production is destined to foreign enterprises, but the company is preparing to meet the growing demand associated with the Brazilian pre-salt.
Last week, Vallourec closed long-term contracts to supply seamless steel tubes from the OCTG (oilfield tubular goods) line.
“This is an extremely relevant contract for Vallourec. We already see prospects for improvement in the sector, with large projects ahead in Brazil and the Gulf of Mexico, “predicts the executive.
The equipment will be manufactured in the company’s plants in Minas Gerais.
Hard vs. flexible
Dellaretti believes that the likely choice for a hybrid riser configuration for Libra is more appropriate than the exclusively tube-based solution such as had been happening in the pre-salt.
“We are preparing to meet the entire project with the highest possible local content,” he says.
