Total enters the Brazilian marine lubricants market

2/28/18

To grow up to 20% in 2018, Total – the fourth largest oil and gas company in the world – begins to compete in the market for marine lubricants in Brazil. With a range of premium products focused on fleets of local and international vessels and power plants, Total Lubmarine will initially service more than 30 ports nationwide and market 2,000 tons of products in the first year in this market.

“In 1952, Total created Lubmarine, the world’s first marine lubricant. Since then, we have been working intensively on technology and innovation to maximize the efficiency of the naval industry. That is why we are today one of the three largest global players in the segment, with 18% global participation, and we serve more than one thousand ports in more than 100 countries, from all continents, “says Olivier Bellion, CEO of Total Lubricants.

The new operation of the company in Brazil will operate on three fronts: servicing Total’s international customers who stop at the country’s ports, supply products for vessels that circulate throughout the Brazilian coast and sell to thermoelectric plants, which have similar engines to large vessels. “Total Lubmarine has innovative solutions to serve different types of navigation, such as cabotage, fluvial, offshore, long-haul and others,” says the executive.

This portfolio, which features Total Lubmarine Talusia, Atlanta, Aurelia and Disola lines, offers complete coverage for heavy and diesel, two- and four-stroke engines through a wide range of lubricants that operate under the most diverse conditions operations. “We have all the expertise and know-how to manufacture all these products at our plant in Pindamonhangaba, in the interior of São Paulo. We will only import the basic additives and oils to carry out production locally, “says Bellion.

According to him, the company will not only deliver high-performance lubricants. “But, yes, every complete service that begins in innovative research to reach the technological improvement and its logistics chain. The vessels have unique characteristics due to the variations in sulfur levels present in their fuels, and Total Lubmarine is able to create specific lubricants, taking care of these and other particularities, guaranteeing all the necessary reliability of these critical equipment, explains the director general.

Total Lubricants’ full product mix serves all boat applications from engines to auxiliary equipment as well as environmentally acceptable lubricants (EALs) with high performance and biodegradable, minimally toxic and non-bioaccumulable oils and greases. In addition, Total Lubmarine EALs are developed through an extensive R & D process, which relies on rigorous testing at all stages of development to ensure real control of the cycle and performance of each product.

All services are designed to make customer life easier, so you can operate safely and efficiently manage your marine lubricants. For this, Total provides extensive technical support, including used oil analysis, which provides speed and accuracy in the diagnostics of the condition of your equipment; highly skilled engineers, providing even 24-hour on-site assistance and tailored customer training programs to meet the needs.

“The entry into the Brazilian market of marine lubricants, coupled with the performance in retail and industry, is essential to reach the goal of having a 5% overall share in the lubricant market in the coming years,” concludes Bellion.
