Siem Offshore took delivery of the second intervention tanker of its fleet. It is the Siem Helix 2, which will now join the Siem Helix 1 – both chartered by the US-based Helix Energy Solutions. The US company will provide offshore well intervention services in Brazil to Petrobrás.

Siem Helix 2 recently left the Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft shipyard in Germany owned by Siem Industries. The vessel is 158 meters long and holds 150 people.

The two ships were chartered by Helix Energy Solutions in February 2014 for an initial period of 7 years with extension options for up to 22 years.

The Helix 1 contract with Petrobras was scheduled to begin on October 21, while Helix 2 is scheduled between October 1, 2017 and December 31, 2017. However, there has been a delay to the start of Helix 1 activities . The expectation is now that the contract will begin to be executed in the first quarter of next year.
