Brazil’s former leader Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will become President Dilma Rousseff’s chief of staff, two government leaders in the lower house of Congress, Jose Guimaraes and Afonso Florence said.
The real fell against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday for the third straight session on investor concern that Lula could successfully use his renowned political skills to rescue Rousseff, while pushing for looser fiscal discipline. Brazilian assets had surged in the past two weeks on bets the president’s ouster would pave the way for a government with a stronger mandate to revive growth.
