Critics of President Dilma Rousseff are organizing street protests in more than 90 cities throughout Brazil on Sunday, providing the first gauge of public opinion since Congress opened impeachment proceedings.
Civic groups posted lists of rallying points and times on social media, calling on Brazilians to march in favor of Rousseff’s ouster. “Impeachment: with you on the street, she’s outta here,” reads a Facebook bulletin posted by a group whose name in English is Take to the Street.
The number of protesters who march on Sunday will become a key element in swaying legislators who haven’t yet decided how to vote on impeachment, according to Andre Cesar, a political analyst and founder of consulting company Hold Assessoria Legislativa.
