Petrobras – Clarification of News Item: Rental of Drilling Rigs
Rio de Janeiro, September 9, 2015 – Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. – Petrobras hereby responds to Official Letter 347/2015/CVM/SEP/GEA-1 which requests the following clarifications:
Official Letter 347/2015/CVM/SEP/GEA-1
“A news item that appeared in the September 6, 2015 edition of the newspaper Folha de São Paulo in Elio Gaspari’s column, entitled “PASADENA 2.0”, states, among other matters, that:
‘Against the advice of its technical areas and part of its Executive Board, Petrobras is about to execute a rental agreement for 19 drilling rigs over 15 years for 40 billion dollars, equivalent to 40 Pasadena refineries.
This price is substantially higher than the international market standard for the rental of more modern equipment.
There must be an explanation, just as there was for the Pasadena refinery and all the Lava Jato works.’
In view of the aforementioned, we request that you verify if this news item is accurate and, if so, why you did not constitute a material fact.”
Clarification
Currently, Petrobras has 28 drilling rigs charter contracts with Sete Brazil, signed in June, 2011 (7 rigs) and in August, 2012 (21 rigs) , totaling US$ 89 billion dollars for a period of 10 years (5 rigs), 15 years (21 rigs) and 20 years (2 rigs).
There are ongoing negotiations that foresee adapting the number of drilling rigs to the equipment needs in accordance with 2015-2019 Petrobras Management and Business Plan.
Possible approval of the revision of the contracts will be subject to compliance with Petrobras’ corporate governance and conformity regulations, as well as the approval by its competent bodies.
