(Bloomberg) — Three workers died and six went missing in an offshore platform explosion at a natural gas field operated by Brazil’s state-run energy company Petroleo Brasileiro SA.
Ten other workers were injured and flown to a hospital, Rio de Janeiro-based Petrobras said Wednesday.
The Cidade Sao Mateus platform is operated by Oslo-based BW Offshore Ltd. and was producing 2.2 million cubic meters a day off the coast of Espirito Santo state before the platform was shut, Petrobras said.
A total of 74 workers were on the floating, production, storage and offloading, or FPSO, platform when the accident happened, Petrobras said. The FPSO produces from two neighboring fields, Camarupim and Camarupim Norte.
