Petrobras Announces Plans to Accelerate Production Ramp-up from New Platforms in the Búzios Field

March 8 (PN) Petrobras plans to accelerate the ramp-up of production from the newest platforms in the Búzios field, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin. According to the company’s Director of Engineering, Technology and Innovation, Renata Baruzzi, the idea is to anticipate the increase in production from both the P-78 (already in production) and the P-79 (which is in the final stages of commissioning).

“What we are working on at the moment is to anticipate the ramp-up of both the P-78 and the P-79. In the case of the P-78, this week we broke the record for the first gas injection, carried out in just 61 days after the first oil. The shortest time previously recorded with our own platforms was with the P-66, at 79 days,” said Renata during a teleconference with investors.

According to the executive, significantly anticipating this gas injection from the P-78 is fundamental to proceeding with the other wells. Currently, the platform has one interconnection, and once the gas injection stabilizes, Petrobras will proceed with interconnecting the other wells in the unit.

NEW PLATFORMS AND DECLINE OF RESERVOIRS

For 2026, Petrobras does not foresee any earlier start of production for the next two platforms in Búzios (P-80 and P-81), which are only expected to begin operating in early 2027. The P-80 should begin its journey to Brazil in August, while the P-82 will depart the following month.

Petrobras President Magda Chambriard said that these are two large platforms that will enter production in a scenario where the company has managed to significantly reduce the decline in production from the large fields.

“The management of our oil fields allowed us to mitigate this decline, and the market was able to observe this through last year’s record production. We reduced the decline in oil fields from 12% to 4% per year from 2024 onwards. If we had maintained the 12% level, we would be installing platforms without obtaining any practical effect of increasing production, which is not the case today,” she said.

The executive concluded by saying that the two new platforms, which will have a capacity of 180,000 barrels each, represent a very significant increase in production for 2026. “In short, we have two large platforms entering production this year, altering Brazil’s production level, and two more at the beginning of next year, consolidating this change in level at the beginning of 2027,” she said.
