Feb. 11 (oilnow.gy) MODEC has completed the first steel cutting for the Hammerhead floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel more than a month ahead of schedule. MODEC made the announcement today via LinkedIn.
The steel cut ceremony marked the start of fabrication at BOMESC Offshore Engineering Company Limited in Tianjin, China. The FPSO is being developed for ExxonMobil offshore Guyana.
Jeff Knox, Senior Technical Director and Project Sponsor, said the outcome reflected coordination across the project partners. “This is a big win for collaboration and proof of what aligned planning and execution across ExxonMobil, MODEC, and BOMESC can deliver,” he added. “With strong momentum, we’re on track to turn today’s first cut into tomorrow’s successful start-up offshore Guyana.”
MODEC has reaffirmed core project commitments.
“Safety First and our commitments to High Quality and Radical Transparency, powered by close collaboration, mutual trust, and continuous improvement,” the company outlined.
The Hammerhead FPSO is expected to begin operations in 2029. It is designed to produce about 150,000 barrels of oil per day and handle associated gas and water. The development plan includes a pipeline connection to Guyana’s Gas-to-Energy system to transport gas to shore. The FPSO will be moored in waters about 1,025 meters deep using a SOFEC spread mooring system.
MODEC will provide ExxonMobil with 10 years of operations and maintenance services once Hammerhead reaches first oil, consistent with its role on the Uaru development.
Hammerhead is one of several sanctioned projects in the Stabroek Block offshore Guyana, where production is expected to rise to about 1.7 million barrels per day by 2030.
