Key Petrobras field hits output pace equivalent to 1 million bpd, sources say

Dec 23 (Reuters) – Brazilian state-run oil firm Petrobras’ Tupi field briefly reached a production pace this week that, if sustained for a full day, would amount to 1 million barrels, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.

The milestone suggests that the field, once Brazil’s largest, is on track to return to output of around 1 million barrels per day (bpd), according to one of the sources.

Improving the oil recovery factor at the naturally declining field has been a priority for the state-run company, which had previously said Tupi would produce 1 million bpd only in 2027.

That production level would exceed the field’s current daily average by more than 200,000 bpd, October data from oil regulator ANP showed.

Petrobras did not immediately reply to a request for comment.
