Dec. 17 (oilnow.gy) ExxonMobil anticipates starting its seismic survey offshore Trinidad and Tobago as early as February, the country’s Energy Ministry said on Tuesday.
The U.S. oil major anticipates firing the first seismic shot for its ultra-deepwater TTUD-1 block within two months, after selecting a seismic acquisition contractor, according to a statement from the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries.
The update marks an acceleration from earlier guidance, indicating that seismic work was scheduled for the second quarter of 2026.
Exxon was awarded the TTUD-1 block earlier this year and signed a production-sharing contract with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago in August. The company is working on an accelerated work program, the Ministry said.
Energy Minister Roodal Moonilal and other senior officials told Exxon representatives that the government would work to optimize permitting and approval processes to minimize delays and support the revised timeline.
The update was provided during a meeting between Trinidad and Tobago officials, senior ExxonMobil executives and representatives of the U.S. Embassy, who reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation in the energy sector, the Ministry added.
Trinidad and Tobago has been seeking to revive offshore exploration, including in ultra-deepwater areas, as part of efforts to attract new investment and bolster future oil and gas production.
