Petrobras and Allseas sign contract for Atapu 2

Nov. 3 – Petrobras has contracted Allseas to provide a subsea solution with rigid risers for the Atapu-2 pre-salt field, located 230 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. The contract, obtained through a bidding process, covers the design, acquisition, construction, and installation of 143 kilometers of rigid risers and pipelines in water depths exceeding 2,000 meters. The subsea network will connect 18 wells to a new floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, using steel risers in a “lazy wave” configuration. The scope also includes critical components such as flexible joints, pipeline end terminations, and jumpers to complete the connections.

Offshore activities are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2029, with execution carried out by Allseas’ pipeline-laying vessel Audacia. The contract follows the Búzios-10 project, announced earlier this year, which covers 111 kilometers of risers and rigid pipelines connecting 16 wells to an FPSO. While similar in size and complexity, Atapu-2 has a larger scope, with more wells and longer pipeline systems. Together, the two contracts are among the largest and most technically complex in Allseas’ 40-year history.

To support both projects, the company has expanded its engineering and project management team in Rio de Janeiro, which serves as the strategic hub for Allseas’ operations in Brazil. Preparations are already underway to contract local suppliers of seamless pipes, internal coatings, and flexible joints for the steel risers, strengthening the national supply chain.

“This contract demonstrates Petrobras’ confidence in Allseas’ proven ability to execute large-scale projects of high technical complexity safely and efficiently. We are proud to contribute to the continuous development of Brazil’s offshore resources and to expand our partnership with local suppliers and professionals,” said André de Melo, General Manager of Allseas in Brazil.
