Petrobras starts drilling in the Foz do Amazonas Basin and extends Foresea’s ODN-II drillship contract

Oct. 22 (PN) Petrobras wasted no time in starting drilling the pioneer well in block FZA-M-59, in the Foz do Amazonas Basin, on the Equatorial Margin. The drilling, expected to last approximately five months, began on Monday (20), the same day that Ibama (Brazilian Institute of Environmental Protection) issued the environmental license authorizing the operation. The well was technically designated 1-BRSA-1405-APS and is located in a water depth of 2,887 meters.

Petrobras also extended the contract for the Foresea ODN-II drillship, which is being used to drill the well in block FZA-M-59. The new agreement will run until March 2026, with an option to extend it until June of the same year.

Petrobras also extended the contract for the Foresea Norbe IX rig, also owned by Foresea, until the end of November of this year. The rig is operating in the Santos Basin. The contract extension adds approximately US$110 million to Foresea’s backlog, which currently stands at US$1.6 billion.

“With the fleet fully contracted and operational, Foresea reaffirms its commitment to excellence in rigorous operational and safety standards, while maintaining a focus on maximizing value for all stakeholders,” said Foresea CEO Rogério Ibrahim.
