Petrobras Sergipe Aguas Profundas pipeline project gets positive nod from EPE

Aug.11(PN) The Energy Research Company (EPE) recommended authorization for the construction and installation project of the Sergipe Aguas Profundas (SEAP) gas pipeline, presented by Petrobras. The project was analyzed in ongoing dialogue with the National Petroleum Agency (ANP), seeking to ensure the compatibility of the new infrastructure with national energy planning.

“EPE’s analysis indicated the project’s compatibility with the sectoral planning and recommended its authorization, considering its relevance for the flow of a significant potential supply of domestic natural gas, its contribution to tariff affordability, and its alignment with the objectives of the Gas for Employment Program,” EPE stated.

The SEAP project, in the Sergipe-Alagoas Basin, will be developed using two platform vessels (SEAP I and SEAP II), with a daily production capacity of 120,000 barrels of oil and 12 million cubic meters of gas. The gas produced at these units, already specified, will be transported via the Rota SEAP pipeline to the transportation network in Japaratuba, Sergipe, currently operated by Transportadora Associada de Gás (TAG).

The submission of this analysis, related to the Gas for Employment Program Decree, demonstrates EPE’s commitment to developing and expanding the natural gas market. The assessment prepared by EPE involved active dialogue among stakeholders to obtain the best response for Brazilian energy planning and to continue moving forward,” stated Thiago Prado, president of EPE.

Heloísa Borges, director of Oil, Natural Gas, and Biofuels Studies at EPE, explained that the technical assessment of the SEAP pipeline aimed at the efficient use of natural gas infrastructure. “Equipped with technical rigor, this analysis determined the compatibility of the SEAP project with existing infrastructure. This demonstrates the Gas for Employment Program in action, working to promote and attract important investments to the Northeast region of the country,” she said.
