(TN) MODEC, a global leader in the operation of floating oil and gas production platforms, celebrates two important operational milestones this month: the 15th anniversary of the FPSO Cidade de Santos MV20 and the 10th anniversary of the FPSO Cidade de Itaguaí MV26. Together, the units have already surpassed the 465 million barrels of oil equivalent produced in the Santos Basin.
The FPSO Cidade de Santos MV20 was the company’s first vessel to process more gas than oil in its operations in the Uruguá and Tambaú fields in the Santos Basin. Since its commissioning in July 2010, the unit has contributed more than 5.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas. The FPSO Cidade de Santos MV20 produced until December 2024, when it entered the decommissioning phase, a multidisciplinary process that involves the safe and permanent removal of offshore units at the end of their useful life.
“Today, we are the oldest vessel operating in the Santos Basin! All the experience of the FPSO Cidade de Santos MV20 is being renewed and passed on to the rest of the fleet, bringing the legacy and lessons learned from the MV20 to everyone,” says Alexander Veigantt, Operations Manager for the MV20.
The FPSO Cidade de Itaguaí MV26, in operation since July 2015 in the Lula field, was MODEC’s fourth unit designed for the Brazilian pre-salt and the third to have its deck modules integrated at the Angra dos Reis shipyard in Rio de Janeiro. Gustavo Correia, MV26’s Operations Manager, also celebrates the vessel’s achievements over the past decade: “Celebrating 10 years in operation is a significant milestone and a source of pride for everyone involved in the MV26’s history. Since day one, the FPSO has played an essential role in our operations, ensuring the safety and efficiency of oil and gas production. During this period, we have achieved a great deal together, and we will continue on this path for the next 10 years.”
