Petrobras is making a significant new exploration move in the Campos Basin. The company began drilling the pioneer well (1-BRSA-1401D-RJS) in the Água Marinha block, in a water depth of 2,600 meters. The drillship Deepwater Aquila, owned by Transocean, is operating the Água Marinha block.
The Água Marinha block, in the Campos Basin pre-salt layer, was auctioned in 2022 during the first cycle of the Permanent Share Offer. Petrobras is the operator of the area, with a 30% stake, in partnership with TotalEnergies (30%), Petronas (20%), and QatarEnergy (20%).
Petrobras intends to double its oil and natural gas production in the Campos Basin over the next ten years — from the current 500,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed) to 1 million boed by 2035.
