OneSubsea and Petrobras sign MOU to develop an integrated umbilical model

(PN) OneSubsea and Petrobras will jointly develop an integrated umbilical model for subsea control, injection and monitoring, in line with the operator’s strategic plan. To this end, the two companies announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. The new solution, which will use proprietary OscilayTM technology, will enable the integration of the service line through which fluids injected or received from the well pass. The control line that operates the Wet Christmas Tree (ANM) valves will be in a single hose. The hybrid umbilical could bring significant gains to Petrobras both in terms of the product and in the installation of the equipment, since it would require only one hose and a single boat for the activity. Despite the investment by the Brazilian state-owned company, OneSubsea ruled out the possibility of the new solution being built in Brazil.

The new model can be applied in both brownfield and greenfield fields. Carlos Tadeu Cunha Júnior, OneSubsea’s regional director in Brazil, said that “OneSubsea is at the forefront of developing new subsea technologies that add value to the customer, aligned with its growth strategy and increased production efficiency. In addition to the new hybrid umbilical solution, the MoU will be able to expand the local content of this business line.” The engineering activities of the agreement between the two companies will be developed by OneSubsea’s global team, including in Brazil. Currently, OneSubsea produces umbilicals in facilities in Alabama, United States, and in Moss, Norway. In the future, the multinational may consider producing umbilicals in Brazil, but no detailed plans have been made in this regard yet.
