ANP – Brazil 2024 Annual Oil & Gas Production

In 2024, the Brazilian average annual production of oil and natural gas reached 4.322 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d), remaining stable compared to 2023. There was a reduction of 0.5% in 2024, compared to the total for the previous year, which reached a record of 4.344 million boe/d.

In the case of oil, 3.358 million barrels per day (bbl/d) were produced in 2024, 1.29% below the record observed in 2023 (when it reached 3.402 million bbl/d).

Natural gas production in 2024 reached an annual average of 153 million cubic meters per day (m³/d), 2% higher than the previous year, when it was 150 million m³/d.

In 2024, most of the production came from pre-salt reservoirs, which represented, on average, 78.29% of the national oil and natural gas production, in barrels of oil equivalent. Post-salt and onshore production accounted, on average, for 16.33% and 5.38%, respectively, of the country’s production.

Data from December 2024

In December 2024, national oil production was 3.421 million bbl/d, an increase of 3.3% compared to November and a decrease of 4.6% compared to December 2023. In the case of natural gas, production was 161.13 million m³/d, having grown 2.1% compared to the previous month and 2.9% compared to the same month in 2023. The combined production of oil and gas was 4.435 million boe/d.

Pre-salt

Total production (oil + natural gas) in the pre-salt, in December, was 3.480 million boe/d and corresponded to 78.5% of Brazilian production. This number represents a 2.8% increase compared to the previous month and a 0.2% decrease compared to the same month in 2023. A total of 2.705 million bbl/d of oil and 123.08 million m³/d of natural gas were produced through 160 wells.

Natural gas utilization In December, natural gas utilization was 96.5%. 51.12 million m³/d were made available to the market and flaring was 5.65 million m³/d. There was a 9.0% decrease in flaring compared to the previous month and a 66.4% increase compared to December 2023.

The main reason for the increase in gas flaring compared to the previous year was the continuation of the commissioning of the FPSO Marechal Duque de Caxias, in the Mero Field, which began in November.

Origin of production

In the month, offshore fields produced 97.4% of the oil and 84.3% of the natural gas. The fields operated by Petrobras, alone or in consortium with other companies, were responsible for 89.37% of the total produced. Production originated from 6,506 wells, 531 of which were offshore and 5,975 onshore.

Fields and facilities

In December, the Tupi field, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, was the largest producer, registering 839.91 thousand bbl/d of oil and 42.01 million m³/d of natural gas. The facility with the largest production was the FPSO Guanabara, in the shared Mero field, with 182,147 bbl/d of oil and 12.02 million m³/d of gas.
