Petrobras drilling exploratory wells in North of Brava and Aram blocks, in the Pre-Salt layer

Petrobras recently started drilling two new wells in the region, in the North of Brava and Aram blocks, which are located in the Campos and Santos basins, respectively.

In Aram, the adjacent pioneer exploratory well 4-BRSA-1395-SPS is in a water depth of 1,757 meters, with drilling being carried out by the Valaris DS-4 rig. The objective is to test the occurrence of oil or natural gas in an area adjacent to a discovery, in a prospect with geological similarity and geographic proximity, but without hydraulic connectivity to that discovery.

As we reported, Petrobras has already made two oil discoveries in the Aram block, the first in 2021 and the second in 2023. When announcing the second discovery in the area, the company said that “Aram is an important asset for the exploration of the remaining potential of the Pre-Salt, particularly in the Santos basin”. In addition, at the time, the company added that it had found “an excellent quality fluid, confirming the low levels of contaminants”.

In the North Brava block, the wildcat well 1-BRSA-1394-RJS is located in a water depth of 575 meters and is being drilled by the Deepwater Aquila rig, owned by Transocean. The purpose of wildcat exploratory wells is to test the occurrence of oil or natural gas in one or more targets of a geological prospect that has not yet been drilled.
