Government of Rio Grande do Sul signs MOU with Shizen Energy authorizing studies for the construction of an offshore wind farm on the coast.

Following the commitments of the government mission from Japan, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the state government and Shizen Energy, a Japanese company specializing in renewable energy. The document was signed by Governor Eduardo Leite and representatives of the company. The agreement provides for the performance of feasibility studies for the construction of an offshore wind farm on the coast of Rio Grande do Sul, with the potential for the production of green hydrogen.

“Renewable energy is a priority for Rio Grande do Sul, and the agreement signed with Shizen represents an advance in our sustainability strategy. This is a partnership that could bring concrete benefits to the state and consolidate our leadership in the energy transition,” stated Leite.

The signing of the memorandum with Shizen is part of a series of strategic commitments with prominent companies in Japan, reinforcing the official mission’s focus on sustainable development.

Earlier, the delegation from Rio Grande do Sul met with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI), where Leite highlighted Rio Grande do Sul’s potential to become a hub for the production of green hydrogen (H2V). MHI, a global leader in sustainable energy solutions, presented its projects aimed at decarbonization and the development of clean energy technologies to the governor. During the hearing, the governor emphasized the state’s commitment to leading the energy transition in Brazil. “Partnering with companies like Mitsubishi helps us transform our potential into reality. We want to position Rio Grande do Sul as a global leader in green hydrogen, and we are certain that this will open up many possibilities for the state’s economic development,” Leite stressed.

MHI highlighted its interest in expanding its operations in Brazil and exploring partnerships with Rio Grande do Sul, especially in projects that integrate technology and innovation in the energy sector.
