(PN) Recently, Petrobras began drilling a new well in the Buzios Field, in a water depth of 1,939 meters, using the Carolina drillship. The information was made available by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP).
The new well was given the technical name 9-BUZ-99D-RJS. The nomenclature beginning with the number 9 indicates that this is a so-called “special well”. According to the ANP, this type of well is intended for specific purposes that do not fit into the previously defined purposes, such as a pilot well for horizontal wells, a well for water collection or disposal, blowout control, and observation.
Petrobras has big plans for the Buzios field. The company’s CEO, Magda Chambriard, has already stated that the idea is to increase the asset’s production to 1 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (boed) in the third quarter of 2025. To achieve this goal, Petrobras is expected to put a new platform ship into operation in the field next year, the FPSO Almirante Tamandaré, which recently arrived in Brazil.
According to the latest data made available by ANP, in August, Buzios’ production was around 768 thousand barrels of boed. Since September 2021, the field’s production has been allocated to two contracts, one under the Transfer of Rights (ToR) regime and the other under the production sharing regime, originating from the first Auction of Excess Volumes of the Transfer of Rights
