Petrobras restarted drilling an exploratory well, in the Jubarte field, in a water depth of 967 meters. The new well was given the technical name 4-BRSA-1392DA-ESS. Remember, when the original well is abandoned, operators drill a so-called repeat well, which has the same geological objectives. The technical name of the well is basically the same and only has one more letter, following determination by the National Petroleum Agency (ANP).
Drilling is being carried out with the Brava-Star drillship, owned by Constellation. This is an Adjacent Pioneer Exploratory Well, which is drilled to test the occurrence of oil or natural gas in an area adjacent to a discovery, in a prospect with geological similarity and geographic proximity.
The Jubarte field, discovered in 2001, is part of Parque das Baleias cluster, together with the Baleia Anã, Cachalote, Caxaréu, Pirambú and Mangangá fields. In 2019, Petrobras and ANP signed an agreement to extend the concession period until 2056 for the new unified Jubarte field, which enables the implementation of the new production system of the Parque das Baleias Integrated Project, in addition to complementary projects in the area .
Last month, Petrobras announced that it will anticipate the start of production of the FPSO Maria Quiteria, a new platform ship that will operate in the area. The forecast now is that the unit will have its first oil in the last quarter of 2024. Previously, the schedule present in the Strategic Planning 2024-2028 indicated that entry into operation would only take place in 2025.
