MODEC’s FPSO Cidade de Campos dos Goytacazes MV29 completes six years of operational efficiency

(TN) In June 2024, the FPSO Cidade de Campos dos Goytacazes MV29 celebrated six years since it produced the first oil in the Tartaruga Verde and Tartaruga Mestiça Fields of the Campos Basin. The start of this operation represented a new moment for MODEC, due to its production capacity, weight (108.7 thousand tons) and size (335 meters in length) compared to other vessels in operation at the time. In its first year, the platform reached 99.42% operational efficiency, becoming, to this day, an example for the entire fleet.

Moored approximately 125 km from Macaé (RJ), in a water depth of 765 m, since the beginning of operation in 2018, the FPSO Cidades de Campos dos Goytacazes MV29 has produced more than 177 million barrels of oil, an average of 83 thousand barrels per day in the period. According to a ranking by the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP), the ship is currently the second largest producer in the Campos Basin, ranking among the 30 largest producers in Brazil. The MV29 was the 12th FPSO delivered to the Brazilian market and consolidates MODEC’s leadership position in Brazil, in its 20 years of operation in the country. Currently, the company has 13 platforms in operation, two FPSOs under construction, which will arrive in Brazilian waters by 2027, and another in the engineering development phase.

“In June, we proudly celebrated the six-year milestone of the FPSO Cidade de Campos dos Goytacazes MV29! Our dedication, competence and hard work are the basis of this continued success. The MV29 was a game changer in the industry, with its capacity to process 150 thousand barrels of oil per day, 5 million cubic meters of gas compression/day and to store 1.6 million barrels of crude oil. The MV29 was also the starting point for new technologies towards greater operational efficiency”, celebrated Carlos Cunha, Operations Manager of the FPSO Cidade de Campos dos Goytacazes MV29.

In 2020, the platform was recognized by the World Economic Forum as a global reference in the application of digital technologies in industrial facilities. Through more than 10,000 installed sensors and strategic use of data, it was possible to boost operational efficiency, carrying out predictive maintenance, and reduce downtime on the platform by 65%.

MODEC’s premise is to develop and value its employees with programs such as the Next Challenge, talent mapping and internal recruitment, and the FPSO Cidade de Campos dos Goytacazes MV29 is an example of this. Currently with 160 professionals, the platform began operations with 73% of employees transferred from other company units. This is one of the ways that MODEC has to value its own team, generating internal opportunities, promoting talent and ensuring that its culture, values and processes are incorporated in the best way and in the shortest time in new units.

“Starting a new operation is always a challenge, but having a specialist team with experience on other vessels is the key to the operational success of an FPSO. It is extremely important to encourage this transfer and use of talent between operations. The result is operational excellence, with safety always coming first” explains Carlos Cunha.
