(TN) On June 29th and 30th, Transpetro carried out the first oil transfer operation between ships (Ship to Ship) at the Port of Itaqui, in Maranhão. The company was already transshipping diesel and gasoline at the São Luís Terminal. With the operation, the Port of Itaqui returns to handling oil after 40 years, which demonstrates the relevance of the operation.
On that occasion, the Liberian ship Marlin transferred 18 million liters of oil to the Panamanian-flagged ship Nave Atria. The oil discharged comes from the Urucu onshore fields, in Coari (AM). The volume handled went to the port of São Sebastião (SP) to supply Petrobras refineries.
“The São Luís Terminal is playing a crucial role in the flow of oil production in Urucu. This is due to the versatility of Ship to Ship operations, which allow the efficient transfer of different types of liquid cargo”, says the manager of the São Luís Terminal, José Alisson Sousa e Silva.
“Operations of this nature demonstrate the company’s preparedness for new business opportunities and are aligned with our growth strategy”, adds the sectoral manager of Operations at the São Luís Terminal, José Carlos de Souza Júnior.
Transpetro stands out as the market leader in Ship to Ship operations in Brazil and is among the largest global providers of this service. This logistics option can reduce maritime transport costs by up to 30%.
