Petrobras has never processed so much natural gas from the Santos Basin Pre-Salt as it did in 2023. The company reached a daily average of 25.25 million m³, surpassing the 2022 record by around 200,000 m³/day.
Pre-salt gas is processed at the Caraguatatuba (UTGCA) unit in the state of São Paulo and the Macaé (UTGCAB) unit in Rio de Janeiro. Improvements in using natural gas processing assets contributed decisively to the result.
According to the director of Industrial Processes and Products at Petrobras, William França, the volume of pre-salt gas processed last year reinforces the company’s strategy: “The historic record that we achieved in 2023 is the result of the synergy between our teams and the focus on profitability and efficiency that we employ for a greater supply of the product to the market.”
Gas processing and supply
According to Petrobras’ 2024-28 Strategic Plan, Route 3 will start operating this year. It will have a processing plant with a capacity of 21 million m³/day and a gas pipeline with a capacity of 18 million m³/day.
