IBAMA grants license for multi-client seismic survey on the Equatorial Margin

The Brazilian Institute of the Environment (Ibama) granted TGS the environmental license for multi-client 3D seismic research activity in the Pará-Maranhão and Foz do Amazonas Basins, in the Equatorial Margin region. The document will be valid for three years and can be renewed.

According to Ibama, TGS will be able to carry out the activity with one of the following seismic vessels: Hai Yang Shi You 720 – HYSY 720, Oceanic Vega, Oceanic Sirius, Hai Yang Shi You 721 – HYSY 721, SW Empress, SW Baret, SW Bly, SW Duchess, SW Gallien, SW Mikkelsen, SW Coral or BGP Prospector.

The environmental agency also determined the implementation of pollution control projects, monitoring of marine biota, mapping of the ocean floor, monitoring of the underwater acoustic landscape and monitoring of impacts of platforms and vessels on bird life.

As a reminder, TGS announced earlier this month the approval of its merger with PSG. The operation was approved at a shareholders’ meeting of both companies. Completion of the transaction is subject to the necessary approvals and authorizations. The merger is expected to be effectively completed in the first half of 2024.

“We strongly believe that this merger will bring substantial value to our respective stakeholders, from shareholders and customers to the employees of the combined organization. As we move forward, we remain dedicated to navigating the regulatory processes and meeting all closing conditions to ensure the successful completion of this transformative merger,” said TGS CEO Kristian Johansen.
