Petrobras drills wildcat well at Dois Irmaos block

(PetroleoHoje) Petrobras started drilling a wildcat well in the Dois Irmãos block, in the pre-salt layer of the Campos Basin, last Friday.

The Ocean Courage rig drilled in a water depth of 2,769 m. The unit was also used to drill the Alto do Cabo Frio Central wildcat well, in the pre-salt layer of the Campos Basin.

The drilling reached the Macabu formation, as stated in the Minimum Exploratory Program (MEP) of the contract, which also provides for a formation test as a contingent activity.

The first of the Alto de Cabo Frio Central MEP expires on December 17, 2025.

Initially, Petrobras planned to drill in Dois Irmãos in 2020. But the Covid-19 pandemic forced it to postpone exploratory plans. At the time, the company claimed to the ANP that it would be necessary to postpone investments to mitigate the economic impacts of the health crisis.

Petrobras leads the Dois Irmãos consortium with a 45% stake, together with BP (30%) and Equinor (25%). The block was sold in the 4th Sharing Round, held in 2018.
