TGS Obtains License for Seismic in the Campos Basil

Ibama gave the green light for TGS to proceed with the 2D seismic acquisition in the Campos Basin. The campaign, scheduled for 2022, but still without a start date, will cover 23,000 km of 2D lines.

This is a multi-client project. Given the proximity, TGS will use the port of Rio de Janeiro as its base of operations.

According to the Ibama document, the seismic vessel BGP Pioneer will be used. But TGS country manager João Corrêa stated that this has not yet been defined.

“This is one of the outstanding questions as we are studying the windows that our potential partners have to offer us. One certainty is that we will avoid the humpback whale migration season to carry out the project”, said the executive.

Plans for 2022

TGS has two other projects. Expected to start in June 2022, TGS intends to acquire 114,26 thousand km² of 3D seismic data in the Pelotas Basin, with a minimum distance of 101 km from the municipality of Laguna, in Santa Catarina. Three ships will participate in the activities, one of them being the source vessel.

The company’s other project submitted to IBAMA in June this year provides for the acquisition of 55,900 km² in the Santos Basin, estimated to start in December 2021 and end in December 2023. The 3D seismic acquisition with nodes will be carried out in five nodes consecutive phases:

Phase 1, covering approximately 11.47 thousand km²;

Phase 2, with 16,600 km², of which 3,200 km² are outside the Exclusive Economic Zone (ZEE);

Phase 3, with 8.8 thousand km² (389 km² outside the ZEE);

Phase 4, with 11.7 thousand km² (1.12 thousand km² outside the ZEE);

Phase 5, of 7,200 km².

TGS will use the Port of Rio de Janeiro as a support base, with four ships participating in the operation, two of which are source and reception vessels.
