The Brazilian Institute for the Environment (Ibama) granted Petrobras the installation license for the FPSO Almirante Barroso (Buzios 5), which will be installed in the Santos Basin. The license will be valid for six years. The platform ship should only enter into operation in 2023, according to the company’s new 2022-2026 Strategic Plan.
Initially, Petrobras’ idea was to start operating the FPSO in 2022. But the company had already recently announced that due to delays at the Chinese shipyard COSCO, the platform’s entry into operation would be postponed to 2023.
The FPSO Almirante Barroso was named after the commander who led the victorious Brazilian naval force at the Riachuelo Naval Battle on the Paraná River in 1865. The vessel will be capable of processing 150,000 barrels of oil per day and 212 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
