Brasco to operate the Marine Fuel Terminal at Porto do Açu

Nov 21, 2019

Brasco, the Wilson Sons Group’s offshore support base company, has entered into a contract with NFX Combustíveis Marítimos, a joint venture between BP and Prumo Logística, to support ship transfer and fueling operations that take place at the Marine Fuels Terminal, in Porto do Açu.

In addition to acting as terminal operator, in charge of preventive and corrective maintenance of the unit, Brasco will handle the moorings of the vessels, the scheduling of operations and the monitoring of transfers. The fuel will be transported on medium-range (MR) vessels, which are approved by BP’s shipping area and provide safe ship-to-ship transfers throughout the operation.

The fuel will be transferred from these ships to tanks installed at the logistic support base operated by B-Port, located within the Porto do Açu onshore channel, where customers can receive ex-pipe fuel. Vessels will be supplied in the anchorage areas or at the Porto do Açu terminals by vessels dedicated to NFX operations.

Brasco’s CEO Gilberto Cardarelli points out that excellence in Safety, Environment and Health was one of the decisive factors in obtaining the new contract. With world-class safety status by DuPont standards, the company accounts for more than seven years without workplace accidents, a milestone for the country’s oil and gas industry.

“The partnership proves the high quality standard of our operations,” celebrates Cardarelli. He points out that Brasco will implement its Quality, Safety, Environment and Health management system at the terminal.

NFX has been operating since 2016. The company imports and markets marine fuels under the BP Marine brand, one of the world’s largest suppliers of marine fuels, lubricants and technical services.

A pioneer in the private terminal offshore support base segment, Brasco celebrates its 20th anniversary in December. The company has two own bases in Guanabara Bay – Brasco Niterói and Brasco Rio -, totaling eight berths. The company has great expertise in remote operations, having set up temporary bases in several ports of the Brazilian coast.
