Decommissioning Result For Cação

Nov 1, 2019

The Piauí-Alabama consortium, led by Triunfo Logística, was the winner of the bid to contract the decommissioning of the fixed platforms of the Cação field in the Espírito Santo Basin. The amount presented by the group to provide the service was R $ 38.5 million.

The result was announced by Petrobras following the declassification of the US group EPIC Companies, which filed for judicial recovery in the US.

However, Saipem and shipbroker Westshore – the latter representative of the engineering firm William Jacob Management in the tender – appealed against the decision of the oil company. In the original classification, the companies were in second and sixth place, respectively, with proposals of R $ 37.8 million and R $ 46.1 million.

Sought, Petrobras reported that the process is underway. Westshore stated that “because this is an opportunity where there was no final disclosure, it does not wish to comment on the ongoing process.” Saipem did not return to contact.

The bidding notice foresees the removal of all equipment and surface materials such as gangways, cranes, topsides and jacket, as well as materials identified with the presence of naturally occurring radiation (NORM).

The scope also includes cutting services for subsea equipment and structures such as piles, conductors and pipelines up to 1.5 m below the sea floor. The abandonment of the field wells was completed in September 2016.

Anything removed should be transported to a specific area defined by the contractor, and the decks and jackets will have to be dismantled and disposed of as scrap. In the case of NORM materials, they must be taken to an area to be indicated by Petrobras.

The contracted company should start offshore activities by July 2020, having as of that date 90 days to make the final disposal of the structures, materials and equipment of the Cation platforms.

The two-year contract is scheduled to begin in March 2020.
